Fracture performance of fibre-reinforced epoxy foam

Low density aramid and carbon fibre-reinforced epoxy foam has been synthesised with the aim of improving mechanical properties, principally fracture performance. The properties measured were energy, compressive strength, density. influence fibre type, loading, length was investigated. In addition, composite face-sheet bond tests performed to ascertain how effective toughness transferred from individual component structure. general, addition fibres improved performance reinforced samples compared control foam. Increases in strength moderate whilst energy increased by up 107% 124 J/m 2 256 0.75 mm fibres. Increased presence on surface, caused an increase propagation 50% 277 416 .
